ABA is short for Applied Behavioral Analysis, and it is used to assist treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders who demonstrate challenging behaviors. Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a system of autism treatment based on behaviorist theories which, simply put, state that desired behaviors can be taught through a system of rewards and consequences. ABA can be thought of as applying behavioral principles to behavioral goals and carefully measuring the results.
ABA is a therapy method that can help with the identification and treatment of challenging behaviors. Additionally, ABA therapists are trained to collaborate with families to reach set goals and to produce lasting change and improve the quality of life of each child.
At Kuhl Therapies, Registered Behavioral Technicians (RBTs) use a community-based approach in order to help each individual child improve their behaviors in the most naturalistic environment possible. The RBTs that work with children at Kuhl Therapies collaborate with the other disciplines that child is seeing, including Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Physical Therapy.
In addition, each therapist has been trained to understand the differences between sensory and behavior. The RBTs are all supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who is obtaining her PhD and also teaches other BCBAs.
